Switch It Up- Best Sex Toys For Disabled Users

Switch It Up- Best Sex Toys For Disabled Users

    Eddie House |

At Sexy Emporium, we believe that everyone is entitled to an amazing sex life. Being disabled can impact your sex life in as many different ways as there are different people. From mobility issues with positioning, to medication making it harder to achieve orgasm, there’s lots of ways sex can be affected. With that, I’ve lined up some of the best sex toys to try to enhance experiences.

    1. Lube

Lube will always be my number one recommendation for any type of sex or toy use but it can be even more important for those on medications. Medications can affect arousal and a high quality water based lubricant is a must if your libido is being affected. There’s plenty of times when your head might be in the right place but your body hasn’t caught up yet and this lube will provide the extra glide to pleasurable sensations.

    2. Remote Control Love Eggs

I love a good remote controlled toy but for people with motor skill struggles, they can be life changing. Instead of a fiddly button on the toy itself that has to be pressed whilst inserted, the remote control on this toy features an easy to press button. Once the toy is in place, you can get into a comfortable position and control the toy from there rather than bending or stretching limbs to change the settings. This toy has the added benefit of being a love egg, and therefore working out your Kegel muscles when wearing it out and about- Kegel muscles are important for pelvic floor health, and especially for those worried about developing incontinence. For more information on Kegels, check out the blog post featuring them!

    3. Multispeed Love Eggs

Similar to the remote control egg as above, this is a wired version. If buttons are still too fiddly for fine motor skills, consider this toy with it’s dial control as an alternative option with all the same benefits!

    4. Spreader Bars

For those with mobility problems, getting into positions for sex that are comfortable and easy to maintain throughout isn’t always the easiest. A spreader bar can keep your legs in the right position without the muscles getting overtired. Bondage sets can be utilized for a similar purpose- wear the ankle and wrist cuffs as normal but use a carabiner to attach the metal ring on the wrist cuff to the ankle cuff- this keeps the wearer in a restrained position with the cuffs taking the body strain and making it easier to hold the position.

    5. Magic Dresses

Lingerie looks beautiful and sexy but tiny clasps and fiddly straps can be difficult to manage when struggling with fine motor skills. These magic bodycon dresses are visually stunning and stretch to allow the wearer more movement. They are perfect for those with sensory issues as well due to the soft touch fabric instead of different textures, and no buttons or zips to contend with.

There are plenty of other options- masturbators like Fleshlights or larger bullet vibes have more room to hold the toy and are lightweight to be easily maneuvered. Toys aren’t a one size fits all deal and part of sex is about getting creative to fulfil a need! Everyone's body varies and experimentation is key to finding something that will work for you personally.

I spoke to an anonymous source when writing this article- they are a type 1 diabetic who wanted to stress that people don’t consider the ways that hidden disabilities affect sex. For example, they have to take breaks during sex to monitor and adjust blood sugar levels. It’s about communicating with any partners what might happen and what can be done to increase comfort- in the same way you’d talk to any partner about what you enjoy during sex.

Disability can affect people in other ways than just physical restrictions. Society is still functioning with an outdated view of disability and what that word means and there’s a very long way to go yet. Society views disabled people as fragile or delicate and non-sexual. This couldn’t be further from the truth- yes some people might choose not to have sex or might have their libido affected by illness or medication or any other reason but that’s exactly the same as able bodied people. To quote our anonymous contributor-“Disabled people are sexy, and many of them do have sex. Just make sure you talk about any considerations required beforehand and during if it comes up!”
